State of the Art Infrastructure

Atlanta Gas Light is creating a more sustainable future by reducing greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining the safety, reliability and affordability of service that our customers need.

Pipeline replacement and modernization is recognized today as having the single largest impact on methane emissions reductions in the natural gas industry’s distribution segment. Thanks to Atlanta Gas Light’s infrastructure modernization efforts, we reduced annual methane emissions from our distribution system by approximately 60% between 1998 and 2018, even as we grew our system by about 25%.

The U.S. Department of Energy has recognized Atlanta Gas Light as having one of the earliest and most successful programs in the country.

Impact Through Innovation
As part of our efforts to support a net zero future, Atlanta Gas Light utilizes innovative cross-compression technologies. This allows us to collect natural gas removed from pipelines during maintenance or inspection and return it for use back into the line. The result? Less gas entering the atmosphere.
