The Atlanta Gas Light Foundation strengthened its partnership with the Technical College System of Georgia to achieve their shared goal of helping students throughout Georgia develop the technical skills they need to succeed in the workforce.
Pedro Cherry, president and CEO of Atlanta Gas Light, as well as Jesse Killings, senior vice president of customer operations, safety and training for Atlanta Gas Light, who is also a member of the TCSG Foundation Board, met with TCSG Commissioner Greg Dozier and TCSG leadership this month.
During the meeting, Cherry and Killings discussed how Atlanta Gas Light can help TCSG develop curriculum for its HVAC and Pipefitting programs, as well as work with suppliers to ensure technical schools around Georgia have the equipment they need to maximize the skills of their students.
“We are grateful to the Atlanta Gas Light Foundation for their ongoing commitment, not only to TCSG, but to our students across Georgia developing the skills they need to succeed in the workforce,” said Greg Dozier, commissioner of the Technical College System of Georgia. “We are excited by this partnership and look forward to seeing the impact that the knowledge and expertise of the Atlanta Gas Light team can have on our program and students.”
“We seek to contribute not only financial support to TCSG,” said Cherry, whose company’s foundation donated $150,000 to the school system for equipment to and facility upgrades, as well as last-mile tuition funding for students in need, in October. “But also to prepare young men and women across Georgia for success. This is just the beginning of a true partnership that will grow stronger in the year to come.”
As part of this effort, Atlanta Gas Light has also committed to participating on TCSG boards at both the state and regional levels.
“I am honored to be a member of the TCSG Foundation Board and excited about everything this partnership can achieve,” said Killings. “This is an investment in the future. Not only developing the workforce that will power Georgia’s future, but also in making TCSG a shining example of workforce development to be replicated throughout the country.”
TCSG has more than 600 programs at 22 colleges in Georgia. Students can take classes at 88 campuses across the state. In the 2021 academic year, nearly 35,000 students graduated from programs throughout the system.
