About Us
Atlanta Gas Light installed the city of Atlanta's first gas streetlights in 1856. Ever since, we’ve been a constant source of reliable, safe and clean energy -- and a constant partner to the 243 communities we serve throughout Georgia. Today, we’re the eighth largest natural gas distribution utility in the United States and the largest in the Southeast.
When Georgia’s natural gas market was deregulated in 1998, our business changed. We no longer sell natural gas directly to customers. Instead, we operate and maintain the gas pipes, read meters, maintain the natural gas infrastructure and distribute gas to certified marketers, who in turn sell gas to customers.
- Distributing natural gas for the marketers
- Maintaining the gas system infrastructure, including responding to gas leaks
- Performing meter reading for the marketers
