No more waiting for natural gas meters
AGL’s MeterExpress service offers builders a one-stop process for setting new residential meters. In most cases meters are set when the service line is installed; in some areas it could be 48 hours. Once the house passes inspection, a licensed HVAC/plumbing contractor can tie in the home’s fuel line to the outlet valve, turn the valve supplying gas to the home’s piping system, and light and test the gas appliances.
Note: It is very important that upon lighting the equipment, you call your marketer to activate the gas account. If you have a signed agreement with a natural gas marketer, you may call Atlanta Gas Light's builder hotline: 770-994-6105 (inside Atlanta) or 1-800-599-3770 (outside metro Atlanta).
MeterExpress gives builders control over when the fuel line is connected and lightup takes place. Other benefits:
- Once the line is installed and the meter set, builders can turn on gas, pending a current inspection, at any time during construction.
- Builders can activate multiple meters at once.
- Meters can be activated on weekends, holidays, and the first cold snap - with no waiting.
As before, the builder can establish a gas service account, so that service, if desired, can start before the homeowner moves in. The builder simply calls the marketer.
